"Time weighs down on you like an old, ambiguous dream. You keep on moving, trying to slip through it. But even if you go to the ends of the earth, you won't be able to escape it. Still, you have to go there- to the edge of the world. There's something you can't do unless you get there."

7 Ways to learn Japanese online & for free, Part 3

(3) All Japanese All the Time

ESPECIALLY the 10,000 Sentences Project

This is a site by a guy called Khatzumoto who achieved fluency in Japanese in 18 months (he wasn't even living in Japan!) through immersing himself in Japanese language and constantly doing fun things in Japanese (like watching his favourite anime). Obviously his method is a little extreme (to which he tartly replies “moderation is for losers”) but you can adapt his methods to work for you.

One great idea is his emphasis on INPUT - e.g. by replacing your English ipod music with Japanese music and Japanese podcasts like SBS Japanese, Fashionsnap, Japanese Listening Advanced (all free on itunes – look them up) to attune your ear to the sound of Japanese.
